the taskbar/tray is curved and not like it is on XP... is this true, or are the monitors playing with us ?
Have microsoft broken the stright-line-bars barrier and served us a more round "look".. i hope so

Good Weekend!!

Looks like it could be a fake to me?

Looks like the convex curve of the monitor is distorting the image to me

The article that contains the screenshot says:

"It is the taskbar area that concerns me most: This is the part that resembles the Longhorn prototype UI I'd already seen, with a hump-like curve over the tray notification area."

So, I don't think that it is a monitor problem.

Go to the wincustom main page and there is a link to that article your refering to..and it has the same screenshots..

I looked at it, and its not the monitor. If that look though is any indication of some of the changes to the GUI then I am curious what the point of that is. It does get away from having a straight line, and therefore being more stylish, but does it serve a purpose?

I believe that the new tray will be more customize friendly, more menuĀ“s and controls.
But the curve is just an curve and i think there are no purposes with it... but who nows

I have a question:

What is going to happen to WC when the new OS from Microsoft comes out? Everyone here gonna jump ship from XP to Longhorn?
on Aug 24, 2003
That all depends Kona, chances are Microsoft will change what 'Longhorn' is supposed to be a lot by the time it's released. It's still a good 2+ years away, who knows what the market will be like then, what the PC world will be like. But as far as everyone jumping ship, that would all depend on Longhorn and it's features. XP is a rock-solid OS with an abundancy of features, it's gonna be hard to top this. They can merely improve and streamline what is already on XP. I doubt it's gonna be such a drastic change like from Win98 to WinXP. WinFS does look promising though, I still worry about Paladium and DRM.

what are all these?

Kona: This http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/longhorn.asp explains alot of stuff about longhorn.

WinFS is the new file system for Longhorn. Just like Win98 had FAT32, NT/2k/XP has NTFS...Longhorn will have WinFS. In a nutshell (as far as I understand) it turns your hard drive into a SQL database. Each file will be a record on that database, which will make accessing files and searching files MUCH faster. That's all under the hood though, it will still look visually the same, icons and windows..etc. Paladium and DRM is much to involved to be discussed here, there are so many rumors about it.

Info on Paladium - http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2002/jul02/0724palladiumwp.asp
Info on DRM for Windows - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/WM7/DRM/what.aspx

Hus: WinFS is not a files-system in itself. It works on top/in cooperation with NTFS to create a non-physical and SQL based storage system.

to me looking at the lower right screen pretty much shows that the monitor settings are all wacked out, Pin Cussion is blown on the right
